Well after much though about speakers for my entertainment system, instead of bolting the surround sound speakers in the ceiling of my new place, I started to look into the sound bar speaker set-ups. They consist of a rectangle speaker (like a center channel) and they use digital tricks to act like a surround sound. There are some that just have the center bar and others that have a powered sub, and others that have built-in DVD players. The high-end units have up to 20 speakers in them and run $1500+ and the powered sub is extra.

From my pursuing of tech sites I have found the consensus is that the $50 HDMI cables at Best Buy are the same quality as the $5 ones that Amazon sells. So when I was getting ready for my TV purchase I bought four six foot and one 15 foot DVI to HDMI (which was about $12). They all worked great and service from Amazon was great.
There were reports going round of Best Buy using this tactic to up-sell cables. In a side by side comparison they used monster HDMI cables saying they were better, but those that look at the set-up have seen they use S-video, or worse RCA-yellow. Which is similar to the “calibration” trick they do.
